We are seeking a qualified QA/QC Manager and SQF Practitioner.  This position is responsible for the management of the company’s QA and QC functions to ensure that products meet government, 3rd party, customer, and company quality standards.  Additionally, the QA/QC Manager-SQF Practitioner administers the plant SQF system and maintains certification. This position reports directly to the company Vice President.  Experience will be required for consideration.

Pay: 

  • This is an exempt salaried position.

Schedule:

  • This position will require 45-50 hours per week. Typically Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with extended hours as required to fulfill job duties.  May include occasional Saturday hours.

Essential Job Duties (include but not limited to):

  • Manage all aspects of plant Quality Control and Quality Assurance programs and procedures
  • Oversee the development, implementation, review, and maintenance of the company SQF system
  • With the assistance of the QC Coordinator, manage team of QC Technicians, including: interviewing, hiring, orienting and training; communication of corporate and department goals; monitoring and appraising job performance; coaching and developing growth opportunities; and enforcing personnel policies and procedures
  • Act as a scientific, regulatory, and technical expert and internal consultant for the company
  • Stay current on industry and regulation changes, best practices, trends, and innovations; Seek out, share, and adopt ideas and best practices
  • Plan, conduct, and document formal group training on SQF, HACCP, SSOP, GMP, and food safety policies, processes, standard work, and updates in system requirements
  • Establish and define processes, interrelationships, key controls, and continuously monitor and improve processes to facilitate quality production
  • Create, approve, track, and manage records and documents in compliance with all government, 3rd party, customer, and company guidelines
  • Oversee internal audits, including interviews, inspections, SQF Gap Assessments and data analysis; Communicate findings to managers and staff; Determine corrective actions for nonconformance items and follow up to ensure successful and timely completion
  • Prepare and be present for all 3rd party food safety and quality inspections
  • Support facility initiatives to promote sustainability and continuous improvement of core processes
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with all other departments and business units to ensure success in company quality objectives
  • Confer with sales and marketing to define client requirements, specifications, and expectations;
  • Communicate regularly with customers regarding compliance with their quality and product specifications
  • Assist with new product R&D initiatives

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in food science or a related field
  • 3 years’ minimum supervisory experience
  • 3 years’ minimum experience in food safety and quality management system implementation, basic project management, process management, document management, and general auditing
  • Familiarity with relevant government regulations and industry standards
  • Successful completion of the “Implementing SQF Training Course Exam” within 6 months of hire
  • Training and competence in HACCP-based food safety plans
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word
  • High level of listening, comprehension, and communication skill, both written and verbal
  • Superior time management skill and initiative; ability to prioritize, organize, and complete projects and tasks independently

Physical Requirements:

  • Full manual dexterity in hands and wrists; typing and mouse work for extended periods
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods, walk, climb stairs, bend, squat
  • Unimpaired senses of taste and smell for organoleptic testing

Work Environment:

  • Indoors, primarily at room temperature in offices.
  • Work locations may include warehouses or manufacturing process rooms, which include high levels of noise and moving equipment.
  • May be required to work for very short times in -20 degree storage freezer.
